Whether you choose Marcell, Bigfork, Grand Rapids, or one of the many communities here, life in the Edge of the Wilderness is indeed a small town life. We love it, and we know that no matter who you are, the serenity of the area will win you over. Tourism is the big industry for the lake communities, bringing in most of the business for the year during the warmer months. So even during the busy season, it’s all about recreation here (and might I say, I think we live longer for it).
We do recommend that if you’re relocating to a Northern Minnesota lake home, to make your move during the spring or summer months – it’s just plain easier. And just imagine the kind of nature pursuits that will be available immediately – hiking fishing, and canoeing are just some of the daily activities available to you. There’s an abundance of wildlife here – don’t be surprised to spot an eagle or a deer in the distance. If you’re a hunter, make sure to keep up with the rules and regulations.
If lounging is your thing, you can even just set up your Wi-Fi and sit out on your deck with your laptop – write that novel you always promised yourself to complete, or just send emails to your friends with pictures that will make them jealous… or turn them into your neighbors.
In the winter, it’s typically the locals that are left. And whether we’re plowing each other’s driveways or just taking the Snowmobile team out for an excursion on the trails, we do keep ourselves occupied. Actually, the fishing during the winter can be just as fruitful.
